What can I do if the bandage folds over on itself?

To prevent a folding bandage, remove one side of the backing at a time. If you are unable to prevent the folding and it is a Comfort Release dressing, you may use the provided alcohol prep pad to release the adhesive to pull it apart. If none of the above are successful, you may also use another kit.

How can I keep my saline from falling over?

While the saline bullet has a semi-flat base, it can become wobbly and topple over. To prevent this, you may place it in a clean cup or holder. If this is not readily accessible, the saline can also be rested on its side and will not spill out in a large quantity without being squeezed.

What is Comfort Release?

Comfort Release is a patented secondary (protective) dressing that is designed with an adhesive border that turns “off” so that you do not have any painful tugging when removed. These dressings maximize comfort during removal and allow you to reposition or check on your wound without needing to completing re-dress.

Is the dressing waterproof?

The CareKits that come with transparent adhesive dressings or composite dressings are considered waterproof with appropriate use. Any kits that contain bordered gauze dressings are considered water resistant and include multiple dressings per kit.

Why does my kit come with an alcohol prep pad?

Your CareKit comes with an alcohol prep pad that acts as an adhesive releasing agent for when you remove the Comfort Release branded protective dressings. When you are ready to remove your dressing, swipe the alcohol prep pad on the border of the dressing and watch the adhesive turn “off” and change from white in color to translucent.

The gloves are too big (or small) what else can I use?

While the gloves are the ‘gold standard’ for ensuring no bacteria accidentally enters the wound area, nothing replaces washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. If you would like additional cleansing, you may also use hand sanitizer.

How do I know how often to change my dressing?

Your provider should have instructed you on your specific dressing change protocol, but a general rule of thumb is to divide 30 days by the number of kits you received. [e.g., 12 kits received (30 / 12) would indicate a dressing change every 2 to 3 days.] You may also have been provided a discharge sheet that includes your tailored protocol.

What is collagen powder and what is it for?

The collagen powder found in our CareKits is 100% non-hydrolyzed type I bovine native collagen. The powder can be used to get into the tunneled and undermined areas of the wound. If you have received the kits with the collagen powder your provider has identified the need for this to ensure proper treatment and progression of your wound.

Why do I have extra dressings?

Your CareKits may have come with extra secondary adhesive dressings to ensure that your wound has ample protection and coverage. This may have been prompted by several occurrences: your wound is longer than a single dressing, meaning you will layer two together, or your provider wants you to have extras in rare instance that something gets wet.

Why is the gel not coming out of the tube when I squeeze?

There is a silver sanitary seal on each collagen gel tube, please ensure this has been removed prior to trying to apply the gel to the affected area. If the seal has been removed and the gel is not coming out, shake it several times to ensure the material settles towards the base.

The collagen sheet is stuck in my wound, what should I do?

Depending on your providers instructions, if the material is still on the wound area and to prevent peeling up any newly granulated tissue, it is recommended to leave the dressing in place. You may continue to hydrate the sheet with some additional saline and re-cover. If you opt for removal before it is reabsorbed, ensure the sheet is hydrated so that it does not pull at the skin.

The cover is not sticking well, why is this happening?

The collagen sheet requires hydration meaning that it is wet when applied. Sometimes, if the excess fluid gets on to the adhesive when you cover the area, the adhesive is less likely to stay put. Wiping off the area surrounding the wound after placing the sheet will ensure the adhesive can stick to the clean and dry surrounding skin for optimal protection.
